My Story

We at Jurys Inn Derby are proud to start fundraising for SV2 as part of our 2019 Charity Fundraising Campaign. Every year we select a charity, and fundraise through out the year with a variety of events and challenges.

Our main challenge is to transport Leo the Luggage (sample picture in profile!) to every hotel throughout the Jurys & Leonardo group. Here at Derby, we will transport him to Jurys Inn Nottingham. To do so, we will cycle 12 miles to Trent Lock and the canoe 9 miles to Jurys Inn Nottingham. This will be done on 22nd July, just after Leo is delivered to us from Jurys Inn Sheffield (who are cycling 42 miles to get him here!).

Alongside this, we will hold regular events on site, as well as other fundraising events (this will be updated when finalised) to raise as much money as possible to support SV2, who do amazing work in and around Derby to support people who have suffered from or because of sexual violence.

Every little helps, so please give whatever you can to support this great cause!! We will update this page and our social media pages with further information!

UPDATE! - We have so far raised nearly £230 in house, as well as the online donations - so we're well on our way to target! This has been raised by bake sales, mini bar games, Joe getting his legs waxed and a room raffle (which is still ongoing!! Tickets £1 each if you want one or ten!!).

We still have some more fundraising events planned, as well as the main event on Monday. This begins at 3pm from the hotel courtyard - where Thomas Carter (Hotel Manager) and Michael Golder (Assistant FO Manager) will lead the charge on the bicycles, travelling 12 miles to Trent Lock near Sawley. Here they will pass Leo over to Joe Ward (Assistant F&B Manager) and Haydn Robe (F&B Assistant) to be canoed down the Trent & canals to Jurys Inn Nottingham! But Thomas, not being content with only doing half a job, will also be canoeing - and thus completing the whole journey!!

FURTHER UPDATE! - Leo made his way to Nottingham and arrived safely! Due to Leo having trouble on his way from Sheffield - he arrived late to us, so we had to miss the cycling section of the journey :( However, Thomas & Michael did a spot of cycling in the hotel gym until he arrived to make up for it! Leo loved his canoe ride - being loudly serenaded by Thomas with some classic ABBA & Tina Turner hits! He completed the 9 mile journey with Thomas, Joe & Haydn in just over 3 hours...not bad going for 3 novice men in a boat!

Also the charity room raffle was a great success!! Congratulations to the following:

- Tim Thornhill, who has won a stay at Hilton Garden Inn Dublin

- Lauren Lacey, who has won a stay at South Lawns Hotel, Milton-on-Sea

- Sally Goodwin, who has won a stay at Jurys Inn Watford

- Ellen Shreeve, who has won a stay at Jurys Inn Birmingham

- Sarah Stone, who has won a stay at Jurys Inn Oxford

- Amanda Lowdon, who has won a stay at Jurys Inn Brighton

- Dan Moran, who has won a stay at Leonardo Royal Hotel Tower Bridge

- Chloe Beardmore, who has won a stay at Leonardo Royal Hotel St Pauls

Please continue to donate, as it really will go a long way to helping people!!
